Register as crew
Please bear in mind the following.
- Your details will be posted in a secure area of the website,
which can be only accessed with a user id and password,
provided only to class association members. We ask them not to
pass them on to anyone else. We cannot guarantee 100% that nobody
else can access your details, but we have taken all practical
steps to maintain your privacy while making it reasonably easy
for our members to access them - which is after all the point.
The more contact details you supply, the better the chance an
owner looking for crew at short notice will be able to contact
you.
- Please only register if it is reasonably likely that you will
be available if a 707 owner contacts you to offer you a sail.
Nobody is free every weekend, but if, for example, if you are
already committed to sailing on another boat on many weekends,
we would prefer you not to register here. If your situation changes
so you are no longer available - for example if you find a 707
to sail on as a result of this list - please take five minutes
to remove yourself from the list - you can do so from this
page.
- Last year, many people registered on the list - most found a
707 to sail on. A list of 100 potential crew is hard to owners
to deal with, so we do periodically prune it. We will email you
before doing so - to remain on the list you will need to update
your registration using a userid and password which will be emailed
to you once you have registered. Keep the email.
- Sailing is a risk sport. The class association does not and
cannot guarantee your safety if you take up an offer to sail as
a result of a contact made through the crew list. We cannot assess
the competence of class association members who may contact you,
nor the state of maintenance of their boats and other equipment.
We simply run the crew list as a free introduction service between
our members and people who want to crew 707's. After that, it's
up to you.
- Unless the wind is very light, a 707 is not competitive without
the full complement of five crew. If you agree to sail with an
owner, this is a 100% committment on your part to join a team
for the day. If you don't turn up you have let the owner and the
rest of the crew down, and you can be certain you will not be
asked again.
- If you don't have a car, think about the practicalities of how
you intend to get to the boat e.g. do you need to find a lift.
For example, there are no trains that run from Waterloo towards
Southampton early enough on a Sunday for the Winter or Spring
Series.
